New professor nomination at the Institute, for Tomasz Sowiński

We are glad to inform that by a decision of the President of Poland dated 4 August 2023, Tomasz Sowiński, a professor at our institute, was conferred the title of Professor of Natural Sciences in Physics. Professor Sowiński joined the Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in 2010 and served as its Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs in 2016-2017. Previously, he worked at the Centre for Theoretical Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (CFT PAN), where he prepared his MSc thesis (2005) and PhD thesis (2008) under the supervision of Prof. Iwo Białynicki-Birula. In 2012-2013, he won a scholarship from the Foundation for Polish Science and carried out a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Photonics (ICFO) in Barcelona. In 2015, the Scientific Council of our institute conferred on him a habilitation degree. His research is mainly concerned with the physics of strongly correlated atomic systems. He is also involved in the international experiment AEgIS at CERN, which aims to study and control with high precision exotic atoms made of matter and antimatter. He shares his scientific work with intense dissemination activities in the field of physics, for which he has received several awards. We congratulate professor Sowiński his nomination and we wish him a fruitful work!
