Support in conducting preliminary research

Preliminary research is necessary to prepare high-quality scientific projects that would be competitive in international competitions for measurement time at EuXFEL research stations. Scientific projects using XFEL radiation require unique research techniques. It is not possible to simply transfer the experience obtained using laboratory systems. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out preliminary studies to verify samples, experimental procedures, tests of apparatus, among others. These studies, due to their specificity and limited nature, are most often not sufficient for independent publication of results and are not subject to funding from research grants. In parallel, it is necessary to conduct research using complementary radiation sources, such as synchrotrons or optical lasers. The results of such research are an important part of research proposals, often determining their success. The XFEL Network of Centers of Excellence is meeting these needs by offering funding for participation in preliminary measurements using XFELs, as well as conducting preliminary and training research in the centers’ laboratories.

Please refer to the regulations for details on how to apply for pre-measurement support within the framework of the Ministry of Science and Technology project:

  • Subsidies for participation in preliminary measurements using XFEL or complementary methods.
  • Conducting pre-testing and training at XFEL Centers of Excellence.
