"Jaszowiec" International School and Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors is an annual meeting gathering international semiconductor physics community in Poland. It has been organized since 1970, initially as the Nationwide Symposium on the Physics of II-VI Semiconducting Compounds. The first one was organized by Witold Giriat, Wiesław Wardzyński and Józef Żmija, with final acceptance also from professor Leonard Sosnowski, the founder of semiconductor physics in Poland and a chairman of the Conference until 1986. In 1980 the Conference gathered more international character changing its language to English, but until 2008 it was organized in Ustroń-Jaszowiec, a nice mountain place south of Poland. The growing number of participants forced organizers to move the Conference to other places of the same character, but the traditional name of “Jaszowiec-Conference” was preserved.
In course of the years the Conference became well recognized in the world of international semiconductor physics community. The Conference is preceded by a 2-days tutorial session (School), addressed mainly to graduate students and young scientists. The conference covers the most up-to-date and relevant scientific problems, classified as belonging to the semiconductor physics in a very broad sense, involving almost all research fields in the semiconductor physics, including technology, experiment, theory, and modelling.
The high scientific quality is maintained thanks to the effort of world-class scientists from the Advisory Committee that consists of 11 experts from leading centers for the physics of semiconductors in Europe, North America and Japan. The Program Committee members come from Polish co-organizing institutions.
In 2024, the School (June 15-16) and the Conference (June 17-21) are to be held in person.
The meeting offers a very good opportunity for the transfer of knowledge between excellent scientists participating in “Jaszowiec” Conference and students. The daily time schedule, with the afternoons free of lectures, provides also many opportunities for less formal discussions and building future co-operations, it also allows trips to the surrounding picturesque mountains.
