Mikroskop STM zapoczątkował powstanie całej licznej rodziny mikroskopów próbkujących, w których wykorzystuje się różne rodzaje oddziaływania nanometrowych rozmiarów sondy z powierzchnia. Można nimi badać różne własności powierzchni z niezwykle wysoka rozdzielczością. W czasie wykładu poznamy zasadę działania STM, zobaczymy jak wygląda, dowiemy się jakie są inne popularne rodzaje mikroskopów próbkujących oraz obejrzymy przykłady, co można takimi mikroskopami badać.
