CD XFEL UAM

The XFEL Center of Excellence at UAM is dedicated to research in the fields of photochemistry and structural studies of biological particles.

The first research area involves the application of time-resolved laser spectroscopy (femtosecond transient absorption and emission, time-resolved transmittance and reflectance) in studies of a wide range of materials, from small molecules to supramolecular systems. Special attention is devoted to the study of processes and reactions related to photocatalysis, photovoltaics, light-induced spin transitions in solutions and solids, including organic and coordination compounds.

The second area concerns the study of the structure and conformational changes occurring in solutions of biological macromolecules (proteins, nucleic acids, macromolecular complexes) or lipid systems (biological membranes, drug carriers, etc.). Low-angle X-ray scattering dominates the research techniques in this area. The proposed research areas are related to the scientific topics carried out at the FXE and MID stations at EuXFEL.
