Joint Meeting of PSRS Members and SOLARIS Centre Users 2024

The conference Joint Meeting of PSRS Members and SOLARIS Centre Users enabled the exchange of knowledge and experience in scientific research using synchrotron radiation and will undoubtedly help ensure the highest world level of scientific research conducted at the synchrotron in Krakow. The meeting was a continuation of the conference “Joint Meeting of Polish Synchrotron Radiation Society and SOLARIS Centre Users”, which, taking place every two years in the form of a face-to-face meeting, integrates the community of scientists conducting research using synchrotron radiation.   The meeting was an excellent forum for popularizing world science and disseminating knowledge about synchrotron radiation and research opportunities related to its use. The topics of the conference covered virtually all areas of science, from physics, to biology, chemistry, geology, and environmental engineering. The conference was also an opportunity to discuss new beamlines and ideas related to scientific projects that can already be implemented on the currently launched SOLARIS synchrotron beamlines. During the meeting, on Thursday 12.09 11:00 a.m. the session „Ultrafast processes studied with X-ray FEL radiation” devoted to the usage of X-ray Free electron lasers (XFEL) was held.

The Plan of the session and invited speakers:

1. Investigating the electronic structure of molecules in solution with X-ray spectroscopy, Nils Huse (University of Hamburg)

2. Time-resolved RIXS and SAXS at the SCS instrument of European XFEL, Giuseppe Mercurio (European XFEL)

3. Scientific Opportunities at XFEL, Ryszard Sobierajski (Instytut Fizyki PAN, Warszawa)

4. Towards new time and frequency standards with 45Sc and EUXFEL, Tomasz Kołodziej (Uniwersytet Jagielloński)

5. Ultrafast structural transformations in Fe studied by time-resolved XRD Oleksii Liubchenko (Instytut Fizyki PAN, Warszawa)
