Defect evolution during TOF expansion - movie shown at quantumtech 2016
Defect evolution during time-of-flight expansion in the Vienna experiment. (11M)
The movie shows the evolution of the defects in the cloud during time-of-flight expansion,
after the release of two nearby 1d gases from their traps. The plot shows the density
integrated over the third (z) direction.
In an ideal case, the y position of intereference fringes at a given value of x would correspond to
the phase difference at x between the two initial clouds. As we can see, the fringe position also
depends on complicated defect evolution that masks the initial phase on short scales.
Parameters correspond to those in Gring et al. Science337,1318 (2012), with initial independent 80 nK clouds.
Movie ends at the same time as detection in that experiment.
Note also that the color and vertical scale vary adaptively during the evolution (note the ticks).
