About the Conference

The International School and Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors - "Jaszowiec" is an annual meeting gathering international semiconductor physics community in Poland. It has been organized since 1970, and has originated from Symposium on the Physics of II-VI Semiconducting Compounds (1970). The idea of these annual meetings comes from Professor Witold Giriat - a reputable scientist at the Institute of Physics of  Polish Academy of Sciences - who, together with his colleagues Professor Wiesław Wardzyński of University of Warsaw and Professor Józef Żmija of Technical Military Academy, has also organized initial meetings. Since 1970, every year (with two exceptions, one was in 1982) Polish and foreign scientists interested in recent achievements in semiconductor physics have convened in a nice mountain village called Jaszowiec, just to get acquainted with and discuss current research trends, exchange ideas, and to transfer the knowledge to younger scientists.

The Conference has been organized jointly by the Institute of Physics of Polish Academy of Sciences, the Faculty of Physics of University of Warsaw  and the Institute of High Pressure Physics of Polish Academy of Sciences.

This year, the Conference and School are moving to a new place in a beautiful mountain resort, Krynica-Zdrój, in south of Poland.  For years, the name “Jaszowiec” (the village where the conference has originated) has become the symbolic ‘trade mark’ of the event and, therefore, it has been kept to brand the Conference.
The Program Committee strongly believes that this move will open new possibilities for the Conference to adjust better to quickly changing world of semiconductors.

The Conference will take place in Krynica-Zdrój from 22nd  to 26th  of June, 2009  (Monday morning to Friday afternoon, preferred arrival on Sunday evening, 21st), and will be preceded by the School (i.e., Special Tutorial Session) taking place from  20th to 21st  of June (Saturday to Sunday, preferred arrival on Friday 19th).
